The Collins English Dictionary defines a house as a “dwelling,” which is a mere structure of a building. A home, on the other hand, is defined as “the place where one lives.” Home is the castle to some and hopefully a haven of safety and love to all family members.
It's time to get into the holiday spirit-parties, gifts and, of course eggnog and other alcoholic beverages. Therefore, this season offers an excellent opportunity to consider whether we are communicating the very best, healthiest messages to our children about drinking alcohol. After all, research continues to support the idea that kids and teens are more influenced by their parents that by anyone else - even peers.
The Christensen boys play basketball – a lot of it. And they can be seen in the stands at each other’s games watching intently and keeping track of the score in the family’s official game book. Attending and watching their siblings’ games is part of who they are. It’s part of their family identity.
Do your boys prefer to duke it out rather than talk it out? Raising brothers to work out conflicts respectfully despite wildly different personalities or fierce competitive streaks can prove challenging. But set a positive example, and you’ll find that nurturing brotherly love isn’t impossible!
