Potion Pour: Brew up a colorful potion, pour it out, and watch it slide down a Halloween sculpture in a fascinating pattern! Giant Spider Scare: Spiders have invaded and are guarding the secret mad science lab! Weed your way through giant spider webs. Destroying a pumpkin with science: Watch the spectacle as a science professional crushes, slices, smashes, obliterates, flattens, or otherwise destroys a pumpkin! Host Parasite Interaction Group: Don’t be afraid, be curious and discover the unknown world of parasites. Spooky Science Demo: A mad scientist will cook up a live science demonstration. Enter into the world of his secret laboratory and experience wild and shockingly spooky science! Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! Off you will go on the tractor-pulled hay wagon, rolling through the crunchy Fall leaves just hoping to find some kid-sized pumpkins! Once you find the pumpkins, you'll bring them back and decorate them into creative pumpkin-head masterpieces! While the glue dries, enjoy a visit with your favorite animal friends in the farmyard! Your visit includes hunting time, pumpkin-decorating (no carving), and a farmyard visit with the animals! Each child takes home their very own pumpkin masterpiece. Plan for 110 minutes. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear something orange to celebrate the season! A child's (able to walk to 17 years) Harvest Pumpkin Hunt ticket includes farmyard admission and 1 pumpkin per child. The cost is $14.99 + GST. Puppet Pop-Up Studio: One Glove!.

With winter around the corner, let’s think about gloves! Did you know these little finger warmers also make funky rod puppet heads? Decorate them up with a face, add a flowing cloth body, arms, and hands. Now what kind of voice? Favourite expression? And how does he/she move? We’ll read the perennial favourite “The Mitten” by Jan Brett, and put it all together to make an indie video of puppet poetry. For ages 5+ (children must participate with an adult).
