Calgary Flames Grade 6 Activities.

The YMCA is excited to offer Calgary Flames Grade 6 activities live and in person in a safe and fun outdoor environment and a virtual at-home experience! This free membership supported by the Calgary Flames Foundation is still available and will be extended to expire December 31, 2021 for any children that began their membership after August 1, 2020. Grade 6 Memberships for 2021/2022 school year will be available as of August 1, 2021. Programming will return to in-person in the coming weeks and months with some virtual resources also being offered. For more information, visit the website.

Calgary Meals on Wheels Presents, YYC Summer Cool-er, a new event aimed at supporting local businesses while raising funds to help keep Calgarians well-fed. Some of the city’s favorite local businesses and organizations will host Cool Promos - the sale of unique goods or services - with partial proceeds helping Calgary Meals on Wheels. Supporting these businesses means supporting your neighbors and community. This year’s inaugural event will feature friends of YYC Hot Chocolate Fest and new partners, including: Tourism Calgary; Metrovino; Rosso Coffee; Amato Gelato; TBB Desserts; Amihan Grill; Bakeshop Italiano Please!; Cornerstone Music Cafe; Pixie's Candy Parlour; Sawa Market and Cafe; Cafe Jindo; and Aroma Cafe Bar. Calgary Zoo - "Dinosaurs: Awakened".

Based on the success of the past “Dinosaurs Alive” exhibit, the Calgary Zoo is introducing 26 new realistic animatronic dinosaurs (across 17 species) within Prehistoric Park, from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, covering the zoo’s regions including Canada, Asia, Africa, South America, and Antarctica. The exhibit, designed to educate, as well as entertain, encourages visitors to go on an immersive journey through the newly designed Prehistoric Park to experience what it may have been like to roam the Earth with the dinosaurs, while inspiring action to prevent the loss of endangered species today. “Dinosaurs: Awakened” will be viewable within Prehistoric Park until October 31, and is included in the price of daily admission. Tickets can be purchased from the Calgary Zoo website.

Heritage Day at Heritage Park.

Celebrate Western Canada's diverse culture and heritage with a step back in time! Experience life in four distinct time periods of Western Canadian history as you explore Heritage Park by foot, antique steam train, or by horse-drawn wagon! Hop onboard the S.S. Moyie paddlewheel boat for a refreshing sail on the Glenmore Reservoir, wander through the streets of a 1910 town, and go for a spin on five vintage midway rides! Kick up your heels with the Chinook Country Line Dancers and view the beautiful vintage cars on display, courtesy of the Nifty Fifties Ford Club. Enjoy traditional Blackfoot songs, dancing and drumming in the First Nations Encampment at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30pm. Meet the baby farm animals at the Ranch, learn about the artist's connection to our National Parks, and cool down in the coal mine. Pick up some delicious treats available throughout the Park, enjoy a picnic to go on the lawn or reserve your table for an afternoon tea on the verandah.

Free Exhibition: "Joy".

"Joy" is a collaboration between the Alberta University of the Arts and ATB Art Vault. This free exhibition is available for viewing July 8 to August 29, showcasing artwork from 6 AUArts Alumni. Each artist shares work in this exhibition that embodies their relationships to the Joy they feel in their lives. Featured Alumni artists include Daniel Labutes - ceramic vase, Joy in making. Jiaqi Xie - 3 ceramics, symbols of cultural Joy. Janira Moncayo - video with sound, celebration of cultural and marginalized peoples Joy. Naomi Fong - paintings of cats in garden, disability Joy. Emma Kilburn-Smith - mixed media/embroidery, Joy found in polaroid’s of people throughout history. Banafsheh Khalesi Mohseni - abstract painting, Joy in making/life.

Wagonstage Children's Theatre Presents, Bev the Builder.

Please visit the website for performance dates. Bev the Builder follows the story of a young beaver named Bev living in a river with her parents. Bev is trying to learn how to fix a hole that has formed in her dam, but the water in the river is moving fast, and the sticks keep getting washed away. Her parents leave Bev to keep trying while they look for sticks in the forest. Frustrated yet determined, Bev sets out on her own to find more sticks so she may continue trying. Wagonstage Children’s Theatre is part of the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts. There are 2 shows a day at 10am and 11:30am. Doors open 30 minutes before show time.

There are virtual and in-person events and with more than 55 different walks, talks, tours, and presentations, there is something for everyone! Pre-registration is required and there are attendance limits in place. Donations are graciously accepted and appreciated. Discover historical treasures in our city by taking part in the History Hunt (available on the website) and challenge yourself with the HCW Crossword Puzzle that will appear in the Calgary Herald on July 23. StoryBook Theatre Presents: Singers @ Sunset.

This 6-part weekly concert series will feature some of Calgary's talented up-and-coming vocalists. Each week will be themed from evenings with the music of powerhouse theatre legends like Stephen Schwartz, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim; popular and classic Broadway musicals and new Calgary singer-songwriters. The show will be hosted outdoors, in the Parthenon behind the Beddington Theatre Arts Centre.
