Parents - especially those with very young kids - often express that they feel a little lost in their new roles of ‘mom’ or ‘dad.’ It’s totally normal to feel swallowed up by everything your kids need in those first few years! However, it’s essential for parents to remain connected to the things that make them unique, complete individuals outside of their parenting responsibilities. We know that marriages are happier when couples take time to enjoy each other’s company, too! Push down your feelings of guilt and remember that a happy parent makes for happy kids. Go out and enjoy!

Either way, they’re super low-impact and it’s easy to adjust the intensity whether you’re recovering from an injury or trying to get the best cardio workout possible. If you’re a member at another fitness facility and they have a pool, chances are good they also offer water aerobics - check it out!

You don’t need to be in a gym to get a good workout.

Self-care means a lot of different things to different people. For some parents, self-care is an uninterrupted hour in front of the PS4; for others, it means a shower they’re allowed to take all by themselves. No matter what your definition of self-care is right now, make sure you do it! It can be hard to feel like a pedicure or a new shirt is a priority, but taking some of that energy for yourself is essential to recharging your batteries so you’re the best parent you can be.
