Bring the kids for an exciting morning of learning and discovery at The City of Calgary’s free nature drop-in program in the historic Colonel Walker House. Designed for children 3 to 12 years old, these fun and interactive sessions will explore three themes: City Critters, Busy Bugs, and Plant Power, using games, art and stories. Program themes will rotate on a weekly basis. The Nature Discovery Drop-in program runs on Tuesdays from February 7 to March 14, 2017, at 10am to Noon. Registration is not required. All participants must be accompanied by an adult. Program location is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Over the past few years, mindfulness and mindfulness-based approaches have become increasingly popular in psychology and education. Particularly, mindfulness-based approaches have been shown beneficial for managing anxiety and stress in children and youth. In line with this, this session will present a conceptual framework as to why mindfulness-based approaches may benefit children and youth struggling with anxiety and stress management. Additionally, it will introduce and discuss specific mindfulness-based strategies and resources that children and youth may use in home and school settings.
