Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! After Earth Hour, share your participation with #EarthHour and #EarthHourYYC. Email programs@arusha.org with questions.

Indigenous History Month Celebration at Southcentre Mall.

Join us at Southcentre Mall from June 3rd to 23rd for our fourth annual Indigenous History Month celebration in partnership with Authentically Indigenous. This month-long event will foster understanding, appreciation, and celebration of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples. Experience educational activities, cultural displays, and storytelling sessions that connect both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians. The celebrations will include: Full-Size Tipi: Step inside a tipi adorned with tapestries representing decades of Indigenous contributions to Calgary’s culture. Storytelling: Be moved by traditional stories from elders, delight in puppet shows by Indigenous authors, and explore virtual reality experiences by the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth. Artisan Market: Discover the vibrancy of Indigenous creativity at our artisan market on June 7th and 8th. Enjoy music, dance, and locally crafted goods. Educational Information Walls: Learn and engage with displays that provide deeper insights into Indigenous culture.

Enjoy great live music, the 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off, incredible local food, fruits, veggies, and more! Steel & Timber is a talented trio and local favourite, and always a crowd pleaser at the Market. Their music is a blend of roots country, folk rock, bluegrass, and blues. Steel & Timber will take the stage at 11am. Then you’ll be wowed by the talented female trio visiting from Vancouver. Last year, The Heels caught market-goers attention during the 2017 Stampede, while busking and blowing us away. They are a 2016 BCCMA award-winning female Country music trio with past solo careers spanning a rainbow of genres. The trio are known for three-part harmonies, sassy lyrics, unforgettable melodies, and outstanding heels! The Heels will kick things up a notch at 12pm.

10th Annual Chili Cook-Off at Calgary Farmers' Market.

It’s time to get your cowboy hats on and put your taste buds to the test to crown the 2018 Chili Champion! The Calgary Farmers' Market will be serving up 7 delicious chilis in support of the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank’s, Put the Boots to Hunger Campaign. Come on down to the market July 13th and 14th, make a cash donation to the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank, and try the 7 mouthwatering chilis (while supplies last). Vote for your favorite and be entered to win a gift basket filled with items from the Market. There will also be a Judge’s Choice Award. A panel of local food loving judges will taste and award one contender the Judges Choice Chili Trophy. Tune into Facebook Live on July 13th at 11am to see the competitors and judges devouring the 7 chilis live at the market. Both the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice winners will be announced July 14th at 3:30 pm.
