Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! Takes place November 29 to December 23. Theatre Calgary Presents, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Join the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future as Theatre Calgary takes Ebenezer Scrooge on a journey through time from darkness to light. Takes place from November 30 to December 22. StoryBook Theatre Presents, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. This new, one-act musical tells the story of a family trapped in a cabin by a snowstorm on Christmas Eve. They’re away from home, have no power, no electronics, and no way to escape each other. One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, 11 brothers, and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of a main character, Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph on his journey from slavery to redemption. Recommended for age 6 and up. Saturdays at the Farmers Market in cSPACE are full of fun! At Quest Theatre, they love fun and want you to participate! Come play in the 3rd floor rehearsal space and explore all kinds of shadow creation. Drop by between 10 to 11:45am to enjoy it. And if you really love playing in the Shadow nook, stay for an hour-long class from Noon to 1pm! This exciting theatrical adventure will be in this space and brave explorers will do a small performance for their parents at the end. 15 Student Maximum. Cost: $15. Takes place in room 325. An annual event to collect frozen turkeys, hams, and chickens for approximately 1,500 individuals and families in need this holiday season! All donations, including cash and gift cards, will be accepted on December 1 from 10am to 6pm at participating Calgary Co-op locations: Creekside; Crowfoot; Richmond Road; Oakridge; Macleod Trail; and Auburn Bay.

The Calgary Christmas Market will be hosting Santa from 10am to 2pm on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1 as well as Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8. As this is the season of giving, they’ll be accepting cash or food donations for the Calgary Food Bank* to snap a photo with the jolly ol’ elf and to ensure no one goes hungry this Christmas. There is also cookie decorating while supplies last. *Recommended $10 Donation.

Weekends: December 1 & 2, 8 & 9. Bragg Creek will transform into a sparkly, winter wonderland! Doors open at 3pm; show starts at 4pm. San Francisco-born drummer Jerry Granelli was a fixture on the Bay Area hard bop scene plus did psychedelic sessions for such luminaries as Sly Stone in the ‘60s. He and bassist Fred Marshall formed the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s rhythm section. In 1965, pianist Guaraldi was commissioned to write the music for an animated half-hour Christmas special featuring characters from Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts. A Charlie Brown Christmas went on to become a triple-platinum holiday classic that still ranks in the top Christmas album sales! Pretty impressive for a session that the Halifax-based Granelli recalls as being “counted down by the clock.” The sole, surviving member of the original recording group, Granelli with bassist Simon Fisk and pianist Chris Gestrin revisit the now legendary session. Legacy's 4th Annual Christmas Light Parade is back! With over 120,000 lights, all December, Legacy will be lit up with lights for you and your family to enjoy. It is free for anyone to come drive through the community or come out and walk through the tunnels of lights. The public parks, as well as over 20 Show Homes in the community, have been decorated for Christmas! Come enjoy the many lights and displays and join the Legacy.

ZOOLIGHTS, presented by Olympia Trust Company, is back with more holiday cheer, festive spirit, and family fun than ever! The 32nd Annual Lions’ Festival of Lights will illuminate Confederation Park Golf Course along 14 Street NW again this holiday season from December 1 to January 8. Drive by Calgary’s largest Free Christmas light showcase nightly between 6pm and midnight or take the family for a sled ride through the park amongst the 450,000+ bulbs! The Grand Opening event, complete with fireworks, will be held on December 1 at 5pm.

The Ginger Bread Latte of Operatic Christmas Shows! Come join the Cowtown family for musical merriment, holiday hijinks, and seasonal sing-alongs! There's no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than by singing along to holiday music, and the Cowtown Opera’s A Cowtown Christmas show is just that.
