Alberta Free Family Fishing Weekends.

Fishing is an easy and enjoyable way for family and friends to connect with some of Alberta’s greatest natural resources - our lakes, rivers, streams, and the fish that live in them. During Alberta’s twice-yearly Family Fishing Weekends, no fishing licence is required. Albertans and visitors are invited to give fishing a try on waterbodies with open fishing seasons (not in national parks). Keep in mind that fishing regulations still apply. Alberta Family Fishing Weekends – no fishing licence required and happens annually during the Family Day long weekend in February and in the second weekend of July.

Penguin Walk at the Calgary Zoo.

2020 marks the 8th year of the Calgary Zoo Penguin Walk! The king penguin colony heads out on the zoo grounds for a daily enrichment walk in the winter months and visitors get to experience the fun! This incredible program allows visitors to get an up-close look at the group of king penguins as they explore, exercise, and waddle their way through the zoo. This is a free-choice activity for the penguins and is subject to weather conditions.

Puppet Pop-Up: Celebrating the Year of the Rat!.

Kick off the Year of the Rat! The Rat is the first in the Chinese Zodiac. Create your own ‘Stuffie Rat Puppet’ with instruction and help from WP Puppet Theatre. Practice your hand sewing with the simple start to sew two sides of the cloth body. Stuff and then detail with ears, whiskers, paws and eyes! Rats are considered imaginative and creative so what better way to celebrate the year of the Rat than to get your creative juices flowing and build a rat puppet! Take a break and enjoy some Chinese snacks and tea. Welcoming the whole family - best for 5 years old and up. This event is free. Donations are welcome. Registration required.
