Kids and families can read (or be read to) and take part in virtual challenges based on Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STREAM) through the Library’s website throughout the summer. You can register any time between now and August 31 with your free Library card! All kids must register with their own Library card, and you can get a free card online.? For teens, there's the Ultimate Summer Challenge: Teen Takeover. Track your reading through the website or app and complete fun, creative challenges to earn digital badges. The more badges you earn, the more chances you have to win.??

Marsh Dipping at Bow Habitat Station.
Every Tuesday, Thursday, Jul 14, 2020 - Aug 27, 2020 at 12:00 am - 12:00 am
Takes place Tuesdays & Thursdays until August 27. Session times: 10am, 11:15am, 1pm, or 2:30 pm (approximately 45 minutes). Investigate what lies beyond the cattails of the marshes! Armed with nets and buckets, prepare to get a bit muddy as you search for and identify the critters who make their home in wetlands. This programmer-led activity is a great opportunity to dive deeper and learn about the often-missed critters who make their home in wetlands. All equipment provided. Rubber boots recommended. $4 per person. Recommended for ages 4 & up (children 3 & under free with a paid adult). Youth under 12 must be accompanied by a paid adult). To safely enable physical distancing between participants, pre-registration is required. There is a maximum of 15 participants or four households (whichever is smaller) per session. Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! The celebrations will include: Full-Size Tipi: Step inside a tipi adorned with tapestries representing decades of Indigenous contributions to Calgary’s culture. Storytelling: Be moved by traditional stories from elders, delight in puppet shows by Indigenous authors, and explore virtual reality experiences by the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth. Wagonstage Children's Theatre: A Summer of COVID-19.

Join for free outdoor summer performances for children aged 3 to 12 and their families. Alien Scientists from the planet Uuugo have arrived on Earth to study the human response to COVID-19. With help from their human test subjects, these aliens discover the compassion and humor required to survive a global pandemic and collectively figure out how to finally defeat the COVID monster. Performances are weather-permitting. Check the School of Creative and Performing Arts Facebook page for cancellations. All attendees (including infants and children) must be pre-registered. If you or anyone in your household has a fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose or shortness of breath, or is a close contact of a person who tested positive for COVID-19, please do not attend the event.

For the first time ever, PARK (Promoting Artists | Redefining Kulture) is partnering with Destination Deerfoot City, a 1.1 million square foot outdoor shopping centre in the northeast to launch #YYCBlockParty, a 200-foot outdoor interactive art installation and patio space featuring work by local artists Leetia Lyons, Rachel Ziriada, and Mikhail Miller of NASARIMA, Rhys Farrell, and Sydonne Warren to bring this project to life. While COVID-19 continues to impact our daily lives, Block Party provides a vibrant, accessible, and safe community space where you can engage with outdoor public art and one another while socially distancing. The installation is lined by over 200 feet of pathway and walk space and will be accompanied by art adorned picnic tables, umbrellas, and benches that meet Alberta Health Guidelines for spacing and cleaning protocols. #YYCBlockParty officially launches on July 15 at the Food Lodge at Destination Deerfoot City Outdoor Shopping Centre. Wagonstage Children's Theatre: A Summer of COVID-19.

Wagonstage: Summer of COVID will be offered to families with children by U of C's School of Creative and Performing Arts and ContainR by Springboard Performance. They are turning pandemic to FUNdemic with all the necessary precautions to ensure safe and healthy fun. Children ages 3 to 12 and their families are welcome to enjoy a performance that will make them giggle and wiggle! This year’s short plays have been written, designed, and directed by MFA students, and will be performed by undergraduate drama students at the ContainR site and City of Calgary Parks. You can find the troupe performing at the Sunnyside ContainR (1020, 2 Avenue NW) every Sunday at 11am and 1pm and every Thursday at 10am and 11:30am from July 26 to August 30. The first 10 families to register will be guaranteed a spot. Admission is 'pay what you want' following the performance.
