Get outside and enjoy the vibrancy of our city! Chinook Blast will heat up Calgary with a four-week celebration of community, culture, and civic pride! The best of Calgary’s art, music, theatre, sport, and recreation will be on display. Some activities are free

February 1 to 28; Calgary Meals on Wheels Presents, YYC Hot Chocolate Fest. Participating cafés, restaurants, and chocolatiers compete for the coveted titles of YYC’s Best Hot Chocolate, Best Spirited Hot Chocolate, and special Cup That Runneth Over Award. Sip a variety of hot cocoas and determine the blend that roasts them all! $1 to $3 from every cup sold supports Calgary Meals on Wheels.

Hygge Hut - pronounced “hoo-ga” - is the East Village's Scandinavian-style space inspired by the Danish idea of Hygge, which means a special kind of well-being - a cozy, easy togetherness. This season, Hygge Hut was reimagined to be bigger, better, and cozier than ever and has a new home in C-Square! There are weekly interactive live ice carving demonstrations, pop-up food trucks, hot chocolate, fireside storytimes, community dog walks, live music, and no shortage of good company! Check out the website for weekly programming and pop-up activities. (You’ll know you’re in the right place when the familiar smell of campfire hits your nose and gives you all the camping and nature feels without having to leave the city.) Hygge Hut is open Fridays, 2 to 6pm, Saturdays, Sundays, and Statutory Holidays Noon to 6pm until March.

Join us at Southcentre Mall from June 3rd to 23rd for our fourth annual Indigenous History Month celebration in partnership with Authentically Indigenous. This month-long event will foster understanding, appreciation, and celebration of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples. Experience educational activities, cultural displays, and storytelling sessions that connect both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians. The celebrations will include: Full-Size Tipi: Step inside a tipi adorned with tapestries representing decades of Indigenous contributions to Calgary’s culture. Storytelling: Be moved by traditional stories from elders, delight in puppet shows by Indigenous authors, and explore virtual reality experiences by the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth. Artisan Market: Discover the vibrancy of Indigenous creativity at our artisan market on June 7th and 8th. Enjoy music, dance, and locally crafted goods. Educational Information Walls: Learn and engage with displays that provide deeper insights into Indigenous culture.

The Calgary Zoo is starting the year off with waddle! The 2022 Penguin Walk, presented by RE/MAX, marks the 10th year of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo's penguin walk. During the winter months, the king penguin colony heads out on zoo grounds for a daily enrichment walk to keep their brains and bodies healthy and visitors get to experience the fun! This incredible program allows you to get an up-close look at the group of king penguins as they explore, exercise, and waddle their way through the zoo. This is a free-choice activity for the penguins and is subject to weather conditions and animal inclination.

Harnessing the power of creativity to transport us into an imagined future and playful present where nature’s resilience and winter wonder takes center stage amongst our city of arts dreamers, empowering community to dream our future anew. The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere. Northern lights appear in many forms from patches or scattered clouds of light to streamers, arcs, rippling curtains or shooting rays that light up the sky with an eerie glow. Northern Lights is part of Chinook Blast, which is Calgary’s six-week winter festival celebration that brings together partners from the arts, nonprofit, neighbourhood, tourism, and sports communities to create an inclusive event that showcases the best of our city. Our vision is to build a uniquely Calgary winter experience that draws visitors from all corners of Calgary and all around the world. Chinook Blast will run from January 21 - February 27, 2022. That is until Ben, the benevolent teenage son of Belle and King Adam (The Beast), offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking offspring of the evilest villains. Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos - the children of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, and Jafar - are welcomed to Auradon Prep to attend school with the children of their parents’ sworn enemies. Now entering a completely foreign world and way of life, the four Villain Kids have a difficult choice to make: should they follow in their parents’ wicked footsteps or learn to be good? The show is planned to be presented at 50 percent capacity. Should provincial restrictions be lifted, more seats may be made available.
