What was once a one-off way to dazzle local residents, has now turned into an annual family-friendly event that brings everyone from Calgary and area. Join us for a drive through the Legacy Community in the southeast of Calgary, to enjoy a wondrous Christmas lights display of more than one million lights.

Join the Chinese Cultural Centre as they celebrate the Lunar New Year and the transition from the Year of the Tiger to the Year of the Rabbit. The Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre will be hosting the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival 2023 on January 14, 15, 21, 22, 2023, in accordance with the Centre’s mission of enriching and educating a traditional holiday with the public.

The 2023 Penguin Walk marks the 11th year of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s penguin walk. During the winter months, the king penguin colony heads out on zoo grounds for a daily enrichment walk to keep their brains and bodies healthy and visitors get to experience the fun.

Charlotte plays the trumpet on a cardboard tube, the xylophone with two knitting needles, and the drums on anything that bangs. Her musical talents are not appreciated at home, so she sets off into the wide world, where the Music Maker comes to her rescue. Families will enjoy this magical journey with Platypus Theatre exploring the sounds and colours of the instruments and the exciting possibilities that music has to offer. Come early for the Instrument Discovery Zoo at 2PM. Program and artists are subject to change without notice.

This is a 1 hour, 10 week class held Thursday evenings at 6:00 pm, beginning September 22, 2022 Youth Campfire Bootcamp 101 for 9-13 year olds is a spinoff of the popular Campfire Bootcamp 101 for adults. Whether just beginning or experienced, students are given the opportunity to play and sing fun, varied songs appropriate to their age group. The songs are written out in an easy to understand format with basic instruction on how to approach accompaniment and soloing. Variations are included on how to expand those techniques to ensure all students reach their potential. Class size is kept small so students receive personalized instruction and the setlist is chosen primarily by the students. Topics explored include: Open Position Chords Bass Lines Singing while Playing Simple Melodies Basic Lead Technique Percussive Accompaniment No experience is necessary, however basic guitar technique is helpful. Enrollees are required to have their own instrument and a capo.
