Earth Hour 2024.

Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! After Earth Hour, share your participation with #EarthHour and #EarthHourYYC. Email programs@arusha.org with questions.

Lunchbox Theatre Presents The Dark Lady.

For more than 400 years, mystery has enshrouded the identity of Shakespeare’s “Dark Lady” as depicted in his sonnets, believed by many to be England’s first female published poet-musician, Emilia Bassano. Bassano was also trilingual, mixed race, and a force to be reckoned with. The Dark Lady brings these two poets together as they wrestle with artistic collaboration, ambition, envy and love.

Award-winning actor and director Frank Ferrante ignites his PBS, New York and London acclaimed portrayal of legendary comedian Groucho Marx in this fast paced 90 minutes of hilarity. The two-act comedy consists of the funniest Groucho one-liners, anecdotes and songs including “Hooray for Captain Spalding,” and “Lydia, the Tattooed Lady.” The audience literally becomes part of the show as Ferrante ad-libs his way throughout the performance in grand Groucho style at Stage West (727 42 Avenue SE).

Indigenous History Month Celebration at Southcentre Mall.

The celebrations will include: Full-Size Tipi: Step inside a tipi adorned with tapestries representing decades of Indigenous contributions to Calgary’s culture. Storytelling: Be moved by traditional stories from elders, delight in puppet shows by Indigenous authors, and explore virtual reality experiences by the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth. Canstruction: Witches CAN Ghouls.

Canstruction is coming to Eau Claire Tower this October for a Witches CAN Ghouls edition! Get ready for Halloween inspired creations in an event that brings together teams of engineers, designers, architects and builders to create extraordinary structures out of non-perishable food items. Using thousands of cans of food, five teams will compete to create structures that will be judged and on display until October 19. At the end of the exhibit, all food used will go to the Calgary Food Bank. This edition’s builders include Vesta Energy, McLennan Ross, Elan Construction, and EllisDon. Those coming to view the final structures are invited to bring a donation of non-perishable items or to donate to The Calgary Food Bank online: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/m/92683?v2=true.

Join us at Fort Calgary for a night of signature cocktails, creepy crimes, and scary stories as you take an eerie twilight walk through the museum and across the land that we call home. Enjoy a special signature cocktail to steel your nerves for the scary stories ahead! Tour guides and lovers of creepy tales Natalie Heaton and Zack Beer will guide you through a two-hour walking tour of Fort Calgary and the surrounding land while telling tales of executions, ghosts, and murders. Tickets include the tour and two drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options are available). Doors open at 6:30 pm.
