The East Village is bringing cozy back to East Village Hygge Hut on RiverWalk. The Hygge Hut is a big warm East Village hug in the middle of a long, cold Calgary winter. The contemporary, Scandinavian-style space is inspired by the Danish idea of Hygge, which means a special kind of well-being — it’s a cozy, easy togetherness enhanced by the glow of a firepit, soft lighting, a warm drink and good company. Olio means a stew, or a collection of things — in this case it’s a new performance created by five choreographers. Music is played live by a jazz trio led by Jonathan McCaslin (composer/drummer) with Jon Wielebnowski (bass) and Chris Tauchner (piano/keyboards) at Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo.

Every January, Banff and Lake Louise comes alive with the annual SnowDays celebration. Lake Louise turns into a glittering display of ice sculptures during Ice Magic. The streets of downtown Banff transform into larger-than-life winter galleries with giant snow sculptures to be found throughout. The thrill of skijoring can be felt by excited onlookers lining the streets of Banff Avenue and the sounds of laughter and joy can be heard echoing from the SnowDays Play Zone.

Artwork made by residents of The Sharp Foundation will be for sale at the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association Flea Market. Since 1990, The Sharp Foundation has provided housing, healthcare, and support to individuals with complex health issues, many of whom have experienced chronic homelessness.

The Barn Artisan Market has two floors of local vendors with unique, hand-crafted, and made-in-Alberta products at Shawnessy Community Centre.
