Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! Join Mad Science for a one hour free workshop using LEGO® Bricks. In the Brixology Carnivals Workshop, children learn about the Engineering Design Process and Mechanical Engineering. They build, test, modify, and re-test a carnival ride model made with LEGO® bricks. They discover how gears, pendulums, and cams are useful design tools for mechanical engineers, and they learn the importance of safe, stable design for carnival rides. Family Day in Optimist Athletic Park.

Join at Optimist Park! Outdoors, there will be face-painting, a bouncy castle, an obstacle course, ‘come-as-you-are’ soccer. In the main hall, learn about all the programs the Optimists support. Inside the Optimist Arena is food, program displays, a silent auction, a robotics demonstration by Bishop Grandin High School, and in-line skating. In-line skating instruction will be provided for free. The equipment rental is free courtesy of Alien In-Line. Skates and mandatory helmets are available on a first come, first-serve basis or bring your own! Free all-beef hot-dogs are offered to the first 500 attendees. A silent auction will offer prizes like bicycles, Flames tickets, electronics, and other goodies!
