Earth Hour 2024.

Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! After Earth Hour, share your participation with #EarthHour and #EarthHourYYC. Email programs@arusha.org with questions.

Alberta Free Family Fishing Weekends.

Fishing is an easy and enjoyable way for family and friends to connect with some of Alberta’s greatest natural resources - our lakes, rivers, streams, and the fish that live in them. During Alberta’s twice-yearly Family Fishing Weekends, no fishing licence is required. Albertans and visitors are invited to give fishing a try on waterbodies with open fishing seasons (not in national parks). Keep in mind that fishing regulations still apply. Alberta Family Fishing Weekends – no fishing licence required and happens annually during the Family Day long weekend in February and in the second weekend of July.

Kick off Alberta’s Family Fishing Weekend with free outdoor family fun and reduced admission to the Discovery Centre, $5 (+tax) per person. The Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery will be open for this event! Hatchery entry and fish feeding is included in the cost of Discovery Centre admission. Visit Investigation Stations to learn about fish and winter recreation in Alberta! Investigation stations are open from 10am to 4pm. Last Admission to the Discovery Centre at 3:15pm. Please leave strollers at home or in your vehicle during this event.

Penguin Walk at the Calgary Zoo.

2020 marks the 8th year of the Calgary Zoo Penguin Walk! The king penguin colony heads out on the zoo grounds for a daily enrichment walk in the winter months and visitors get to experience the fun! This incredible program allows visitors to get an up-close look at the group of king penguins as they explore, exercise, and waddle their way through the zoo. This is a free-choice activity for the penguins and is subject to weather conditions.
