Beginning May 1, the Bow Habitat Station’s Kids Can Catch Trout Pond is open for the season. This pond is stocked with rainbow trout raised in the fish hatchery for you to catch and release. Visit bowhabitat.alberta.ca for more information.

Calgary Unplugged is an annual family-friendly Earth Hour event. Date: Saturday, March 23, 2024 Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Location: Central Library (800 3 Street SE) Join us for music, entertainment, and opportunities to experience what environmental actions you can take in Calgary. Pedal power midway games and experience how our natural world affects our daily lives. Bring personal lighting and dance to the DJ when the lights go down for the Earth Hour party! Calgary Unplugged is hosted by The Arusha Centre's Climate Program, with support from The City of Calgary and community agencies. If you can't make it to the event, turning off nonessential lights, "unplug" from electronics at 8:30 and reconnect with people, games or hobbies! WWF’s Run to Restore Nature is a fun, family-friendly event taking place from May 7-15 across Canada. Calgary Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects at the BMO Centre.

Developed through a partnership between the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and the Ministry of Alberta Environment and Parks’ and their Inglewood facility Bow Habitat Station, the festival will highlight the rich biodiversity in our province and what can be done for these diverse ecosystems. At the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, we invite you to join us on a ‘road trip’ through Alberta – learning about the flora and fauna that make our province home and what you can do to help them thrive. Look for interactive stations throughout the zoo where you can test your knowledge at our Biodiversitree game, dance like a Greater sage-grouse and learn about the micro-invertebrates from nearby rivers and streams.

Bow Habitat Station is proud to partner with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, to bring you the first-ever Alberta Biodiversity Festival. Calgary's newest festival of all things nature, community action, and creative solutions to conservation will have you connecting with biodiversity, while participating in games, activities, photo ops, and more! Visit Bow Habitat Station on May 14 to take an interactive road trip through Alberta and all the amazing biodiversity it has to offer! Tickets include access to feed the fish in the Fish Hatchery as well as all activities occurring inside the Discovery Centre. All activities close at 4:00 pm. Of course, the Zoo is bringing back all the classic activities everyone has come to love like the Skating Rink, Fire pits, and Rival Axe Throwing. ZOOLIGHTS comes to life at night with twinkling lights at every turn, including over 200 light figurines, along with interactive and choreographed light displays. The lights are turned on at 5pm nightly and run until 9pm. It takes approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours to experience all that ZOOLIGHTS has to offer - but you are able to stay for as little or as long as you like!
