Pysanky for Peace.

Pysanky for Peace is a Ukrainian artwork fundraiser intended to raise funds and support for Ukrainians who have been displaced or otherwise impacted by the war in Ukraine. A group of more than 20 local artists led by pysanka master Daena Diduck, will design 50 three dimensional eggs (in honour of Southcentre’s 50th anniversary this year), ranging from a few inches to nearly five feet tall. The eggs will be displayed at the mall as public art until the end of the month and will be available for purchase in exchange for a donation to WUNDERfund, a nonprofit that provides humanitarian aid to Ukrainians locally and abroad.

The confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers has been a place of gathering since time immemorial. Gather around the fire at the confluence for an afternoon of fascinating stories told by Indigenous storytellers from Treaty 7. Enjoy a cup of cider or hot chocolate and immerse yourself in tales expertly crafted by our speaker. On March 17, join storyteller Sheldon First Rider for an hour of tales from Blackfoot culture. Sheldon First Rider is from the Blood Nation in Southern Alberta who has taught the history, language, and culture of the Blackfoot people for over 45 years. For the last 15 years, Sheldon has shared stories of his ancestors and taught the people of Calgary and visitors to the land at the Glenbow Museum. Sheldon is excited to embark on a wonderful adventure teaching at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers at Fort Calgary to share his stories to all those who wish to listen.

Strap on your skates and stride under the stars at Fort Calgary’s new outdoor rink! Join us for an evening skate beside the Bow River illuminated by our glowing ice rink and the lights of the downtown skyline. We’ll provide the glow – just bring skates, helmets and your spectacular skating! From 6-8 pm, our outdoor firepit will be lit to warm cold faces, fingers and toes and a concession will be open inside the Learning Centre with snacks and hot drinks. Skaters of all ages and abilities welcome! This program is dependent on Calgary weather.
