Romantic Comedy Movie Marathon Party

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it seems like the perfect time to share this unique party idea: Romantic Comedy Movie Marathon! This would be perfect for a tween or teen slumber party or even a ladies night with your best girlfriends.

I’m a sucker for romantic comedies and I’d have a tough time picking just one as a favorite. When planning your party, you’ll want to start by selecting a couple of movies as this will help you personalize your menu and decorations. For the younger crowd, think of romantic classics like Disney princess movies. For the tweens, start with a little google searching on PG-rated romantic comedy movies. There are so many to choose from! For a ladies night, you could do a little survey with your girlfriends and ask them what some of their favorites are or what new releases they are eager to see.

Invitations

For your movie party, a movie ticket style invitation would be perfect. Let your guests know that there will be plenty of snacks and refreshments, and even invite them to bring along their own blanket and pillow so they can feel cozy while watching movies. For a really casual party, invite guests to wear their pajamas or their coziest pair of sweatpants.

Decorating

There are a few things that many romantic comedies have in common that would work great for your decorations:

Flowers in vases on the table with a ‘secret admirer’ card in them
Candles for a romantic dinner date
Hearts or anything to do with Valentine’s Day
You could also add in a few movie touches like an old film real, a clapper board, big screen backdrop, etc.

Snack ideas

I love getting creative with food at a party, and there are so many fun and silly ideas for this theme! Just think of the words that come to mind when thinking ‘romantic comedy’ and see if there are ways you can turn it into a snack.

Here are the results from my brainstorming session:

Cupcakes with cupcake toppers for ‘He Loves Me’ and ‘He Loves Me Not’
First Date Jitters - mini jello cups
First Impression Breath Mints
Perfect Pairs - cookies and milk; chocolate and caramel; cheese and crackers; etc.
Love At First Sight - treats with paper glasses or googly eye toppers on them
Goodnight Kiss - chocolate kisses or  gummy lips
Breakup Ice Cream Buffet
‘Mint’ to Be - chocolate pudding and mint  cookie parfaits
Engagement Rings - onion rings
Wedding Reception Toast - appetizer toast topped with bruschetta
Tuxedo strawberries
Wedding Cake Tasting - mini slices of a variety  of cakes
Popcorn with a variety of salts
Chocolate covered popcorn
Pink lemonade in martini glasses

Another idea would be to set up your sweets table  like a movie concession stand with an old-fashioned popcorn machine, paper bags for popcorn, extra  butter, seasoning salts, oversized packages of candy  and fountain drinks. Don’t forget the napkins with  all that buttery popcorn.

Favors

For favors, I love the idea of handing out ‘Bad Date Emergency Relief Kits.’ Inside these kits, I thought of including chocolate because chocolate makes everything better, right? I asked our Facebook fans what they’d include in a Bad Date Emergency Relief Kit and they had some great suggestions: Taxi fare home, medication for headaches (could use tic tacs in a bottle for this) and more chocolate!
