A really sweet (or should I say “tweet”) way to celebrate a new baby is to host a “Tweetie Pie” themed baby shower. Think little birds, birdhouses, nests and delicious pie. Sounds adorable, right?
Invitations
Your invitation could include wording such as, “It would be so tweet of you to join us” with soft pastel colors, floral prints and a small lace bow at the top. Picture a garden shabby-chic style. You could also go in a completely different direction with this by adding in bright colors, like yellow canaries, bluebirds, colorful leaves and more.
Decorations
If you are hosting your party in an outdoor setting (at a local park, on a back yard patio) or in a beautiful greenhouse during the winter months, your decorating will already be largely taken care of.
To help set the scene for your Tweetie Pie baby shower, decoration ideas include:
Decorative bird cages
Birdhouses
Moss
Nests from your local craft store
Baking cooling racks (to display the pies)
Fresh flowers with twigs and leaves
Grapevine wreaths around the bases of cake stands
Simple ceramic bird décor
Floral-print plates and cups
Wicker baskets for holding items, like utensils and napkins
Large and colorful feathers placed in a small decorative vase
Using tall candlesticks with a variety of cake stands can give different levels for the table and they are perfect for setting up birdhouses and nests. If you don’t have large candlesticks or different sizes of cake stands, boxes can be wrapped as decorations and used as a base for serving trays and stands.
For a special added touch, you could include a framed photo of the happy parents-to-be with a caption underneath that reads: “Love Birds”.
Some simple party decoration pieces that fit with almost any theme are:
Paper lanterns
Large tissue pompoms
Fabric banner in a variety of different prints
Instead of a standard party banner, you could have a bird-on-a-wire type look with silver wire and small craft birds on top. This would be tied between two decorative trees or bunches of branches in vases on either side of the table. Be sure the craft birds you choose are small so that they don’t weigh the wire down too much.
Food
What should you serve at a Tweetie Pie party? Pie, of course! You could serve different flavors of pie (pumpkin, berry, apple, coconut cream, key lime, pecan... and the lists goes on), mini pies and pie pops on a stick.
Cake pops in the shape of little birds are such a sweet touch in a little nest on the table. You could also include a chocolate nest on the top of a cake with bird-shaped cake pops or fondant decorations placed in the nest.
Some other delicious ideas include:
Twigs - pretzel sticks
Nests - macaroon cookies topped with chocolate eggs
Bird feed - granola bars
Mini cheesecakes served in mason jars and topped with berries
Fruit tarts
Favors
I always love food favors at parties (no one can turn down a delicious treat), but there are so many other ideas perfect for this theme:
Bird feeders
Birdhouses
Flowers to plant in the guests’ own garden
Paper birdhouse favour boxes filled with egg-shaped candy, like chocolate eggs or jelly beans
Mini pies wrapped in twine with a personalized tag
A “Please remember to take your tweet!” sign could be added to the favor table.
No matter what theme you decide on, the most important part of any baby shower is to make the new mommy feel loved and supported!
