CBE Kindergarten: Where Your Child’s Talents are Treasured

Kindergarten is the start of an exciting adventure full of promise for children and their families. At the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), we understand that children bring their own unique talents and gifts to their learning experience, which is why we personalize students’ learning to help them reach their full potential. In the early years, personalized attention can make a meaningful difference in children’s lives. That is what sets Calgary Board of Education early learning programs apart from the rest.

CBE schools are open to all children, and are committed to embracing every student in a safe and welcoming environment. From the very first day of Kindergarten, our teachers begin looking into the future to help children take those next steps in their learning. We never lose sight of our ultimate goal, which is for every student to complete high school with a foundation of learning necessary to thrive in life, work, and continued learning.

To achieve this goal for every student, we take the time to recognize which children need additional support to achieve long-term success. Whether it is a community school, language program, or one of our many alternative programs, parents and guardians can choose the Kindergarten program that is best for their child. They can be assured that the unique needs of each child will be taken into consideration at our schools. In fact, each Kindergarten classroom is supported by a multidisciplinary team that collaborates with teachers to optimize your child’s learning experience.

The team may consist of professionals such as:

  • early learning strategists

  • speech-language pathologists and assistants

  • occupational and physical therapists, and

  • education assistants or early childhood practitioners

The CBE also offers programs for preschool-aged children with exceptional needs at our Early Development Centres (EDCs).

Benefits of the EDC program include:

  • Children interacting and learning through a personalized play-based program

  • An emphasis on communication skills, fine and gross motor development, and social interaction

  • Individualized programming based on the unique strengths and needs of each child

  • A multi-disciplinary team that includes teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, education assistants, or early childhood practitioners, speech-language assistants, music therapist, and family-oriented programming facilitators. Additional supports may include: school family liaison, psychologist, behavior analyst/behavior consultant, and

  • helpful strategies for parents to support their child’s development at home

By providing focused attention to these learners at an early age, we are able to work with each family to prepare their child for Kindergarten and beyond.

For those children who don’t attend a preschool program, Kindergarten will be their first introduction to school and the CBE. This first year will be filled with significant early experiences and memories.

Early Learning at the CBE:

  • 2017 to 2018 Kindergarten registration begins Monday, January 9, 2017.
  • Register for preschool programs for exceptional learners throughout the year.
