If you’re planning a hospital birth make sure that you are prepared for your stay – even if you’re just going to be there for one day. By the end of your pregnancy you’ll be anxiously awaiting the arrival of your new baby. You should do your best to plan ahead and have a bag ready so you don’t find yourself scrambling for supplies if and when your water breaks!
Here are our suggestions on what you should pack:
FOR YOU
- Slippers & a robe
- Warm socks – it can get chilly in the delivery room
- Maternity underwear – or a few of the largest pairs you have
- An extra pillow and pillowcase
- Cosmetics & Toiletries
- Sanitary napkins
- If you wear contact lenses: your case, saline solution and eyeglasses
- Chewing gum, breath mints or candy (you may experience dry mouth or vomiting)
- A journal or pad of paper and pen to keep track of your baby’s diaper changes & feedings
- A plastic sleeve or large envelope for discharge papers, documents, baby’s hospital picture
- Comfortable and roomy clothes for your trip home (don’t think that you’ll be done with your maternity clothes just yet!)
- A nightgown that opens in the front for easy access
- Nursing bra
- Nursing pads
FOR YOUR PARTNER
- Pajamas or comfortable clothing
- One or two changes of clothing
- Toiletries
- An extra pillow and pillowcase
- Healthy snacks and beverages

- Phone and camera battery chargers
FOR YOUR BABY
- Blanket
- Newborn sized diapers
- Baby wipes
