As a young child growing up on the Prairies, I still remember the yearly excitement as summer holidays drew near and it was time to begin planning a summer road trip. Where would we go? What items should we pack? Will we visit our favorite cousins living in the country?
Your family vacation is just around the corner, but have you started packing? If you’re like me, waiting until the last minute to pack for a long-distance trip never works. Don’t ask me about the time I forgot to pack the pull-ups for my family’s island getaway because I decided to wing it. My time-tested mantras for packing: start early and make a list. Following these suggestions makes it less likely you’ll forget something and helps you avoid costly purchases en route or at your destination.
There’s nothing like climbing a mountain to teach a child perseverance, build self-confidence and drive home the message that, “Yes, I can!” After all, think of the beloved children’s classic with the little engine that pulls the train over the mountain for her first time ever to the mantra of “I think I can, I think I can…” Well, you can climb a mountain too! And so can your children!
The advent of the iPad and other tablet devices means that flying with young children just got easier. But what should you do if your tablet is out of juice, your preschooler isn’t in the mood to watch or you want to mix it up and avoid hours of screen time? This list will keep your little one busy during the flight – or at least until your tablet is recharged.
